I've been thinking of starting a marine tank for some time now, i don't want to spend megabucks setting it up as i know it'll be expensive to run, so i was womdering if anyone could help me on this front. I don't have much room a 4x2x2 would be the largest i could have but i was thinking more along the lines of 100L or less, could anyone help me out?

Best thing to do is keep an eye on gumtree people are selling up there marine tanks all the time and there are margins to be had. I don't know much about them but the bigger you go the easyer they are to keep. Some of the guys here keep them and will defo help you out thumbs up

Marines is a different ball game altogether IMO, and the smaller the tank the harder it becomes. Not so bad for a FOWLR system (fish only with live rock) but when adding corals etc... it becomes a real pain , trying to balance your water parameters ie salinity, calcium, magnesium, phosphate, amonia etc.... If you could add a sump than you would be flying. Dont forget you will need to be adding skimmers and other equipment, and they look nasty in the display tank. I done a small marine tank 180l. I broke it down after spending a small fortune realizing i could never get it to look the way i wanted/pictured it in my head. tangs need a minimum 4ft and acro's need serious care . Andrew on here still has a lovely marine setup , im sure he will help you out to thumbs up Anyway my 2 cents, if you really want a good go at marines make sure you have a sump

Hi! You are most welcome to ask away but like everyone I started small- 3 foot w/o sump so its a little harder to maintain good water quality to successfully grow the LPS/SPS down the line.

A 4 footer with sump can be a great set-up. BUt of course some just like to keep it small and simple(less than 100 litres) with some soft corals and a pair of nemos; thats no problem too.

Do some reading and let us know which way you are going; good luck! :)

I'd really like that last idea you just suggests with the clown fish?

Thats relatively easy to maintain; you could possibly have more than clown fishes in there; with a few shrimps; the colours of these will blow you away too; the soft corals are easy to maintain.

Again the tank can be anything from one foot to two and a half. Make sure as was stated earlier; usually most choose to go larger; but sure if you know for a fact you wouldnt then go for it; even if you upgraded in a few months to a years time at least this small set up would not have set you back by much say if you had gone for a 3 or 4 foot and then upgraded to 5 or 6 or larger size.
